5 risks every mobile groomer should plan for

Mobile grooming trades a storefront for a rig — and a different set of exposures. Here are five worth thinking through. Examples are illustrative only and don't promise coverage.

Going mobile is one of the fastest-growing ways to groom, but the van changes your risk picture. These five come up most for mobile groomers.

  1. The rig itself. Your van or trailer is your shop and your transportation. Accidents, theft, and damage to a business vehicle are generally associated with commercial auto rather than a personal auto policy.
  2. Pets in your care on the road. A pet can be injured or get loose during a mobile appointment just as in a salon. Animal bailee / pet floater coverage is focused on animals in your care, custody, and control.
  3. Parking, driveways, and client property. Working at a client's home means new surroundings — a scratched car, a damaged driveway, or a visitor tripping over a hose. Third-party property damage and bodily injury are generally associated with general liability.
  4. Specialized equipment. Mobile rigs are packed with tubs, dryers, generators, and clippers. Damage, theft, or breakdown of that equipment is generally associated with property / business personal property coverage.
  5. Being a one-person operation. If you're hurt or your rig is out of service, income can stop. Groomers commonly weigh how a setback would affect the business and consider coverages — and savings — accordingly.

Putting it together

Mobile groomers often combine general liability, animal bailee, and commercial auto as a starting point. Tell us about your rig and routes on the quote form and we'll factor it in — and see sample claims for realistic scenarios.
